Palmarosa Oil

Cruz Hemp Palmarosa Oil

Cymbopogon martinii

Cruz Hemp’s Palmarosa oil has a sweet and subtle scent, similar to the rose. It is prized for its calming scent in aromatherapy. Offering cell renewal benefits, it nourishes the skin deeply offering a radiant complexion. A little goes a long way in skin care applications.

Origins

Palmarosa essential oil comes from a species of grasses known as Cymbopogon martinii plant, native to India. A member of the Lemongrass family, it shares similar characteristics to Citronella and Lemongrass. However, each cultivar produces very different oils with different chemical properties. Palmarosa, with its flowering tops, grows in the wild throughout India, Nepal, and the Himalayan mountains. Palmarosa is also known as “Indian geranium”, “Gingergrass”, and “Rosha grass”. The scent is sweet and very similar to a rose.

Most Palmarosa essential oil is made in India. The grasses are harvested right before the flowers appear. It takes about seven days to fully dry out the cut grass. The oil is extracted from the stem of the grass through distillation. It takes two to three hours for the oils to separate from the Palmarosa grass, leaving a clear yellow oil embodying the sweet scent of roses. The remaining raw material is composted.

Properties

Pure Palmarosa oil has powerful antimicrobial and antifungal properties, which give it many advantages in skincare. Its antibacterial properties may be beneficial for blemishes and purifying the skin. Alongside Tea Tree and Lavender, it can be used topically for stubborn fungal infections. Its rich, nourishing properties moisten the skin and penetrate deep within the skin barrier, encouraging elasticity. It works to replenish skin cells in dry, mature skin giving you a radiant complexion. Palmarosa locks in moisture while balancing the skin’s sebum production and regulating natural oil levels.

Ancient medicine practitioners value Palmarosa for cooling the body, aiding in reducing inflammation, chronic pain, and indigestion. In Indian markets, Palmarosa oil was also sprayed around grains and beans to keep insects away from the harvest.
